Wachter Wiesler Ried Weinberg 2016
12.5% abv. Deutsch Schützen, Burgenland

Clouds of white pepper explode from the glass. Little by little sour red cherry aromas rise over a dense layer of nougat. After some more time in the glass, those quintessential ferrous notes
of iron and cool metallic earth so characteristic of Eisenberg Blaufrän- kisch suddenly appear. The bouquet is developing much better than expected at this stage and is outstanding. Light to medium-bodied. Sleek and lean. Poised and fine-boned. Nothing is lacking, however. There is a thoroughbred racing quality of svelte prowess displayed by this wine that plays off the spice and red fruit flavours brilliantly. White pepper and tart red cherry notes build to an impressive medium finish. This is a delicious and thoroughly enticing Blaufränkisch from Eisenberg. Spontaneous fermentation in botti and 500 litre oak barrels. Matured in 1000 and 1500 litre oak casks for 24 months. Fruit is sourced from 50 year old Blaufränkisch vines in Ried Weinberg. Drink now through 2027.
