Toni Hartl Inkognito 2017

14.5% abv. Purbach, Burgenland.

Deep purple with ruby reflections and a ruby rim. Pungent bouquet of acacia, mulberry, cherry and blackcurrant underpinned by notes of dark tobacco and nougat. On the palate the wine is generous with black fruit and a modicum of dark cherry peaking through the layers of blackcurrant and wild blackberry. Gentle tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon are infused with Earl Grey tea and dark cherry flavours providing just enough grip and poise for an elegant, classy medium finish. Sufficient acidity keeps the wine playful and impeccably balanced. While Blaufränkisch does not have the starring role in this cuvée, weighing in at just 10%, it is still discernible beneath the layers of black fruit from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah with its characteristic bright acidity and dark cherry notes. A remarkable trio all playing in perfect harmony. Arguably one of the finest cuvées from Burgenland. Spontaneous fermentation in steel. Élevage in barriques for 20 months. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah and 10% Blaufränkisch. Drink through 2035.
