Prieler Schützner Stein 2006

13.5% abv. Schützen am Gebirge

A stellar wine right out of the bottle! This wine is actually a blend of 85% Blaufränkisch and 15% Merlot and what a duo they make. Deep purple in colour. The nose is humming with pristine ripe dark fruit, notably blackberry, plum and cherry. Dark tobacco dances amid the fruit with real charm. Very expressive and concentrated on the palate with a sensational medium + finish. The energy and freshness are impeccably intact with no sign of fatigue whatsoever. The fruit was picked from 4 vineyards on the Schützner Stein with some Merlot vines dating back to the early 1990s.  Matured in second fill barriques for 20 months. If you can find this in your favourite vinoteck, do not hesitate for one second. Should continue to impress for another 3 or 4 years, possibly more.
