Prieler Chardonnay Sinner 2019

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

13.5% abv Schützen am Gebirge, Burgenland

Grown in mica schist and limestone soils of Ried Sinner - an excellent vineyard located near the top of the highest hill on the Schützner Stein where cold northerly winds meet heat-retaining schist. When grapes are picked at the right moment, the results are brilliant: crisp, juicy acidity and fully ripe fruit. Pale lemon with green hues in the glass. Slightly subdued aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and just a scratch of flint. The aromas are light but very appealing. Lovely touch on the palate that is spry and nimble, even charming. Crisp, clean lemon dominates but there are echoes of green apple in the background. This is a wine without pretence and completely unadorned save for the mouth-wateringly cool-toned ripe tree fruit. I would show patience here and dive into this after a few more years. Fermented in steel. Two days on the skins. Bottled in March 2020.
