Hans Igler Blaufränkisch Biiri Reserve 2011

14% abv. Deutschkreutz, Mittelburgenland

Sourced from 4 different vineyards from the "Biiri" near Deutschkreutz, this is a superbly crafted Blaufränkisch from Clemens Reisner. Deep ruby with purple reflections. Pronounced aromas of dark cherry, cassis, blackberry, and blueberry underneath. Lovely floral notes of violets. Very fine tannins and fresh acidity lift the wine to a harmoniously balanced powerhouse loaded with vibrant energy and verve. Medium finish with layers of dark fruit: wild blackberry, dark cherry and a hint of vanilla and spicy oak - all very well integrated and radiant. This is a very bold Blaufränkisch, gregarious yet serious. An excellent wine for those dark winter days. Will continue to age well for another decade, perhaps more. Spontaneous fermentation in 11,000 litre oak barrel followed by malolactic fermentation in steel. Matured in 40% new barriques for 20 months.
