Hans Igler Biiri 2016 Blaufränkisch

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

13.5% abv. Deutschkreutz, Mittelburgenland DAC Reserve

Sourced from a handful of sites from the oldest vineyards in the Biiri and aged for 20 months in oak, this wine is a gorgeous example of what Blaufrankisch can express when grown in heavy clay soils with chalk and sand. Expressive bouquet of wild black berries, dark cherries and spice. The oak is already integrated very well with the fruit. Rich, suave and velvet-like on the palate but with considerable concentration and power. Round, ripe tannins. Clean, sultry finish. Elegant and rustic, polished and a touch untamed. A pleasure to drink. Drink through 2030.
