Günter and Regina Triebaumer are certainly living up to their motto Austrian wine must be fruity with this knockout full throttle fruit-driven single vineyard Cabernet Franc from Rust. Enticing bouquet of dark fruit, nougat and a pinch of dark tobacco. Remarkably complex at such a young age. The blackberry, plum and black cherry notes are focused and shimmering with a jubilant confidence. Plenty of layers of dark fruit on the palate, playful and lively. The fine, juicy tannins are laced with succulent dark fruit. Medium finish with black cherry and nougat. Great energy and spirit to this wine. Very well balanced despite the higher alcohol (14.5% abv) with a firm backbone. Sourced from the north-facing Ried Gillesberg where schist soils push the grapes to superb ripeness, this might be one of the best kept secrets in Rust. With just two owners, this vineyard is practically a monopole for the Triebaumers so we can expect superb Cab Franc for many more years to come. While it is a joy to drink now, best keep plenty of bottles in the cellar: this wine should age impeccably well. Drink now through 2030.
