Feiler Artinger Cabernet Franc 2016

Updated: Jun 24, 2021

14% abv. Rust, Burgenland

A beautiful, captivating Cabernet Franc from Rust sourced from the Gmärk vineyard just underneath the famed Ried Marienthal. Shell limestone and black soils consisting of humus and clay work their magic, endowing the wine with a firm structure lifted by excellent acidity and fine tannins. Opening aromas of dill and black pepper surge from the glass. Notes of spicy cedar and bell pepper give way to creamy, sumptuous black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Before long, fresh blackberry compote with a whisper of smoke and charcoal lead to exotic sandalwood aromas. This is really something special. The full-bodied palate releases more black fruit,  with some very deep dark cherry and blueberry flavours. Round and creamy and utterly delicious. A rustic salinity coats the mouth providing an extra layer of texture that is impossible to resist.  Matured in 50% new oak for 2 years. The oldest vines date back to 1994. The second parcel was planted by Kurt Feiler in 2001. Bio-dynamic. Drinking window 2020 - 2035.
